D. Todd Christofferson – A Sense of the Sacred
June 4, 2008 at 4:30 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment“The importance of having a sense of the sacred is simply
this–if one does not appreciate holy things, he will lose them.
Absent a feeling of reverence, he will grow increasingly casual in attitude
and lax in conduct. He will drift from the moorings that his covenants with
God could provide. His feeling of accountability to God will diminish and
then be forgotten. Thereafter, he will care only about his own comfort and
satisfying his uncontrolled appetites. Finally, he will come to despise
sacred things, even God, and then he will despise himself.
“On the other hand, with a sense of the sacred, one grows in understanding and
truth. The Holy Spirit becomes his frequent and then constant companion.
More and more he will stand in holy places and be entrusted with holy
things. Just the opposite of cynicism and despair, his end is eternal
life.”

Throw your heart over the bar… – Norman Vincent Peale

Comparing our faith to a track and field high jump:
“Throw your heart over the bar and your body will follow.
Throw your faith over your difficulty.
Throw your affirmation over every barrier.
Throw your visualization over your obstacles.
Throw the spiritual essence of you over the bar and your material self will follow in the victory groove thus pioneered by your faith-inspired mind.”

Marie Curie – Understand More, Fear Less

“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
Nelson Mandela – 1994 Inaugural Speech

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves:
Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are born to make manifest the Glory of God that is within us.
It’s not in just some of us; it’s in every one of us.
And as we let our own light shine,
We unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
Our presence automatically liberates others.
Richard G. Scott – Doing Right

“You know what is right and wrong. Be the leader in doing right. At first, you may not be understood. You may not have the friends you want right away, but in time they will respect you, then admire you. Many will come privately to receive light from your spiritual flame. You can do it. I am confident that you can do it. When your life complies with the will of the Lord and is in harmony with His teachings, the Holy Ghost will be your companion in need. You will be able to be inspired by the Lord to know what to do. When needed, your efforts will be fortified with divine power.” (Finding Peace, Happiness and Joy, 251)
Carol Tuttle – Feeling Good
March 16, 2008 at 8:20 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment“When we are focusing on what is in our best interest and what creates more joy in our lives, we feel good. When we are focusing on what we don’t want and that which will lead to more pain and upset, we feel bad. It is a simple formula that can be very, very accurate if we allow it to be fine-tuned and then use it.
Choose to feel good more and more of the time. The most important task you have every day is to stay in a place of feeling good. When we are in a place of feeling good we are in a high-frequency vibration that attracts more and more of what brings us joy. Your spirit-self knows the perfect plan for your life. All you have to do is stay in a place of feeling good to allow the plan to unfold effortlessly and continue to take form in your life.” (Remembering Wholeness, 56-57)
Carol Tuttle – Joy

“There will always be the contrast of pain and hardship available to us. The old belief has been, I am learning and growing through adversity. The new belief can be, I am learning and growing through joy. The question to ask yourself now is, How much joy can you hold, and how long can you hold it?“(Remembering Wholeness, 116)
Movie Quote: Dan in Real Life
March 16, 2008 at 8:12 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment“I want to talk to you about the subject of plans… life plans and how we all make them, and how we hope that our kids make good, smart, safe plans of their own. But if we’re really honest with ourselves, most of our plans don’t work out as we’d hoped. So instead of asking our young people, ‘What are your plans? What do you plan to do with your life?’, maybe we should tell them this: Plan… to be surprised.”
Eckhart Tolle – The Peace That Passes All Understanding
March 11, 2008 at 2:48 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentTags: acceptance, loss
“Whenever tragic loss occurs, you either resist or you yield. Some people become bitter or deeply resentful; others become compassionate, wise, and loving. Yielding means inner acceptance of what is. You are open to life. Resistance is an inner contraction, a hardening of the shell of the ego. You are closed. Whatever action you take in a state of inner resistance (which we could also call negativity) will create more outer resistance, and the universe will not be on your side; life will not be helpful. If the shutters are closed, the sunlight cannot come in. When you yield internally, when you surrender, a new dimension of consciousness opens up. If action is possible or necessary, your action will be in alignment with the whole and supported by creative intelligence, the unconditioned consciousness which in a state of inner openness you become one with. Circumstances and people then become helpful, cooperative. Coincidences happen. If no action is possible, you rest in the peace and inner stillness that come with surrender. You rest in God.” (A New Earth, 57-58)
Gordon B. Hinckley – Accentuate the Positive

“I am asking that we stop seeking out the storms and enjoy more fully the sunlight. I am suggesting that as we go through life, we ‘accentuate the positive.’ I am asking that we look a little deeper for the good….Look for the sunlight through the clouds.”
